The 'E-waste Song' Background

E-waste is a big issue worldwide and it needs immediate attention. One of the biggest issue I is the lack of proper awareness on e-waste and its harmfulness. Additionally, the disposal routes are also not very clear to common people. Hence, a project was initiated by a group of enthusiasts from Jadavpur University, India. Hence, the ‘E-waste Song’ was developed. Led by Biswajit Debnath (i.e. myself) and with the help of a few fellow researchers the project was given a proper shape. The ‘E-waste Song’ was composed by Er. Biswajit Debnath, who is an expert researcher in e-waste management and sustainability area. As a part of this awareness program which was initiated in March 2018, all the works were self-financed and the participants in this program were the research scholars from Jadavpur University. Their active participation led to development of a Unison, that reflects throughout the song. The vocals of Biswajit Debnath, Sumona Das, Kaustav Nath and Chayan Acharya reverberates throughout the song. The genre ‘punk-rock’ was chosen intelligently so that there is a good impact through the loudness and the associated melody on public. The lyrics was written by Biswajit Debnath while the arrangement, mixing and editing was carried out by Chayan acharya. The song was released on 5th June for the occasion of world environment day. Primarily it was done in English. There is a Bengali version of the song as well which is not published yet. A ‘Making of E-waste Song’ video was shot as well which was sort of a documentary film.
